Election night: Former CEC Nurul Huda gives confessional statement

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has given a statement in court, admitting responsibility for the crime of treason by rigging, rigging and holding a farce election. He gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the private room of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman of Dhaka on Tuesday.

Nurul Huda was produced before the court by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) at around 12 noon. The investigation officer of the case, PBI Inspector Syed Sajedur Rahman, requested to record his confessional statement. Later, the court gave him two hours and started recording his statement from 2 pm. He gave his statement until 7 pm.

According to reliable sources, Nurul Huda admitted to the court that he had knowingly created an opportunity the night before the election. In addition, on his sole orders, the local Awami League, its affiliates and the administration prevented the leaders and activists of BNP and Oikyafront from entering the polling stations in the 2018 National Parliament elections. He gave a detailed account of various irregularities in the vote. He told the court that various irregularities were resorted to in this election to bring the Awami League to power as planned.

After giving his statement, he was sent to jail.

On June 27, Nurul Huda was taken on a second four-day remand. Earlier, on June 23, he was first taken on a four-day remand.

He was arrested from the capital’s Uttara area on the evening of June 22. Earlier, local people detained him and handed him over to the police. In the video published on social media, Nurul Huda wearing a lungi is seen being detained. Those who arrested Nurul Huda put a garland of shoes on her. She was also seen beating her.

Earlier, on the morning of June 22, BNP filed a case against the 10th, 11th and 12th parliamentary elections-conducting commission, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, KM Nurul Huda and Kazi Habibul Awal at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The case was filed by Salah Uddin Khan, a member of the party’s national executive committee.

24 people, including three former chief election commissioners, were named as accused in the case.

The other accused in the case, former chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, was taken on a three-day remand last Thursday.
